How FBA profit is calculated

Profit = Price − Referral fee − FBA fee − Inbound cost − Product cost − Other costs

Referral fee is a percentage of the sale price (most categories 8–15%). FBA fulfillment fee depends on size tier and weight — check the current fee schedule in Seller Central and paste your number here.

Inbound cost is what you pay to get one unit into an Amazon warehouse (freight ÷ units per shipment). 'Other costs' is where per-unit PPC ad spend, packaging and prep belong.

ROI is calculated on product cost only (a common seller shortcut). A margin below 15% or ROI below 50% leaves very little room for PPC and returns at scale.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good profit margin for FBA?

Most experienced sellers want 20–30% net margin after all fees and PPC. Below 15% the business is fragile; above 40% usually invites competition.

Does this include monthly storage fees?

Storage is charged by cubic foot per month and is hard to split per unit — add an estimate to 'Other costs' (roughly $0.05–0.15 per small unit per month).

Where do I find my exact FBA fee?

Seller Central → Revenue Calculator, or the FBA features page for your marketplace. The default here ($5.50) is a typical small-standard size tier; apparel and oversize cost more.
